Let’s talk about the power of hybrid events for all faiths.
This weekend, I’m working with a Synagogue to produce their Rosh HaShanah services. As part of a service, they read from their Torah scroll.
These scrolls were orphaned as a result of World War 2.
NOTE: Permission was given by the Synagogue’s Rabbi to take photographs during service.
During the service, the Rabbi did a number of readings from the scroll.
For this morning’s Rosh HaShanah service, we set up an overhead camera at the reader’s table.
The in-person and online audience got to see as the Torah scroll was read live.
Thanks to hybrid (and NDI), we were able to bring their community together.
Some of their community members are elderly and in long term care. Others, due to health concerns, can’t make it to their in-person services. Others still are working abroad.
Yet, at this special time of year, they can still all come together as one community.
To put this on, we’re using a combination of fixed cameras and PTZ. With Bridge, my camera ops can adjust them off-site. My Stream Deck is set with a bunch of presets
NDI Studio Monitor is used to share both the slides for service, and the overhead “Torah cam” during Torah reading segments. (This term was coined by the Rabbi, not me.) We had a dedicated laptop running Screen Capture HX to share screen when needed.
We understand not all denominations and sects are OK with photography during service - this is something we always clear with our clients before taking pictures.
